Over the past few years, Hederosgruppen has established itself as one of Sweden’s most talked-about and widely acclaimed jazz groups. Following three award-winning studio albums released since 2020, the band now presents its first live album, recorded at one of Sweden’s most legendary jazz clubs, Jazzstudion in Umeå.
The concert had long been sold out, and the atmosphere was electric and full of anticipation. Hederosgruppen was in the middle of an extended tour across Sweden, with no plans whatsoever to record or release this particular performance.Only a few days after the final notes had faded did the band realize that the evening’s sound engineer had captured the music on his own initiative. There is a psychology here that should not be underestimated: the musicians’ presence in the moment, untouched by the self-consciousness that inevitably comes with a recording situation. What we hear is a privileged glimpse into an intimate conversation between the musicians and the audience, one that existed only there, on that night.
Personnel: Martin Hederos - all keys, Emil Strandberg - trumpet, Andreas Sjögren - sax, Josef Kallerdahl - bass, Konrad Agnas - drums. Playing time: 43 min. Release date: 2026-04-17. HOOBCD137
Hederosgruppen was formed in 2018 by pianist Martin Hederos, a unique voice in Swedish music, who seems to move freely between genres and collaborations. Pianist Martin Hederos is a member of Tonbruket, former EST bassist Dan Berglunds band. He has now gathered some of Sweden’s most renowned and singular musicians around him, and the band soon became a collaborative project, where all of the band members contribute with their compositions and their individual expression.
